Acoustic Lighting with Impact

Offices, meeting rooms, restaurants, schools, and public spaces all play a vital role in how we work, connect, and feel, and sound shapes that experience just as much as light does. At Lumenear, we design acoustic lighting that combines visual comfort with genuine sound absorption, so every space looks as good as it sounds.

Our luminaires do double duty: they set the right atmosphere and impress with their aesthetics, while quietly reducing reverberation and improving speech intelligibility in the room. Each fixture is engineered to match the architecture and purpose of the space it’s in, from a focused meeting room to a buzzing open-plan office or a busy restaurant floor.

At Lumenear we believe lighting should not only illuminate, but also create comfort. Our products combine acoustic performance with refined design, ensuring that every space sounds as good as it looks.

See it, hear it for yourself.

Why acoustic lighting?

Open offices, glass meeting rooms, and modern minimalist interiors look great, but hard surfaces reflect sound instead of absorbing it. The result is reverberation: noise that lingers, conversations that carry too far, and rooms where it’s hard to concentrate or feel truly private. Most people notice the effect long before they can name the cause.

Traditional fixes, like acoustic panels, baffles, or carpeted ceilings, solve the sound problem but rarely add anything to the room’s design. Lumenear takes a different approach: every fixture is both a light source and a sound absorber, built from acoustic PET Felt that removes energy from sound waves as they pass through it, exactly where people need it most, directly above desks, tables, and seating areas.

The effect is measurable. Every Lumenear luminaire is tested and rated for its acoustic absorption (its Aobj and αw value), so architects and facility teams can specify exactly how much reverberation a space will lose, not just how a fixture will look hanging in it.

Designing Light, Shaping Spaces

All our acoustic lights are designed in the Netherlands, in close collaboration with both in-house and external designers. The result is lighting that combines elegant, sculptural design with real acoustic functionality, never one at the cost of the other.

Each fixture is developed to match an architect’s vision from the very first sketch, balancing form, function, and sustainability in one solution. Whether it’s a single statement pendant above a reception desk or dozens of coordinated fixtures across an open-plan floor, every Lumenear product is designed to be specified with confidence: consistent dimensions, documented acoustic performance, and a finish that holds up in daily use.

Sustainability & Materials

Every Lumenear fixture starts as PET Felt made from >60 recycled PET, which takes less energy to produce than virgin polyester and cuts the CO2 footprint before we’ve even started cutting. Fire-rated to EN13501-1 Class B, so it meets the standards architects and building specifiers need, without losing any of its acoustic softness.

From there it’s cut, folded, and clamped into shape on our own machines: no glue, no screws, and a cut edge that needs no finishing. What’s left over doesn’t go to waste. Offcuts become the packaging your fixture ships in.

All of it happens in Leiden, The Netherlands, on solar power we generate ourselves. Our workshop runs entirely on solar energy, 40 MWh a year straight off our own roof, with our own designers, our own machines, and our own team doing the cutting, assembly, and shipping.
